University: University of South Carolina, Columbia Research Ubiquitous computing was made possible by wireless networks. The proliferation and popularity of wireless LANs and cellular networks is leading to the development of newer wireless technologies like WiMAX and 3G systems. These new technologies spring up a lot of issues in terms of connectivity, routing, bandwidth, security, power and quality of service. Beyond-3G systems, which promise a convergence of all wireless networks, take the wireless challenges to the next level in terms of protocols, policies and integration technologies. We plan to investigate and address some of the issues in WiMax and the integration of wireless technologies using the OPNET simulator. We’ve studied some works like [1] which involved the integration of 3G and WLANs and the visions for beyond 3G systems. We also plan to develop new key exchange mechanisms for wireless networks.
Our previous work with OPNET involved development of a wireless dual authentication protocol for wireless LANs and verifying the feasibility and security of the protocol based on a formal specification References [1] Mobile Wireless System Interworking with 3G and Packet Aggregation for Wireless LAN , J.
